Marrakech ~ Boumalne Dades ~ Merzouga ~ Ouarzazate ~ Marrakech
Day 1: Marrakech – Boumalne Dades
From your Hotel or airport in Marrakesh, we will set off for the Dades Gorges. Passing through Tizi-n-Tishka in the high Atlas Mountains. This breathtaking view is a wonderful start to your journey. Have a camera in hand, this is a site to capture. After driving through Tishka you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou. This fascinating Kasbah, has been the backdrop for many films including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Alexander. After touring you will have lunch at a lovely restaurant with a picturesque backdrop. Relax, before taking off for the beautiful natural landscapes and historical monuments of Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate, Skoura and the Valley of the Roses, famous for its annual Festival of Roses. This is a wonderful place to stop and smell the roses. Many little shops that sell all kinds of rose infused beauty products. We will also pass through the Berber villages of El Kelaa des M'Gouna and Boumalne Dades where we will spend the night.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades - Merzouga
After breakfast, you will travel through Dades, Todra gorges, Tinghir, Tinjdad, Jorf and Erfoud along with a few tiny villages tucked in between before we reach Merzouga. Berber villages, palm oasis and sand dunes are scattered along the way. We will stop along this journey to visit shops and have a bite to eat. When we reach Merzouga you will relax and spend the evening in your hotel/riad.
Day 3: Merzouga
We will hop in the 4x4 to explore villages around Erg Chebbi’s dunes, such as Hassi Labied, Merdani, Khamlia, M’fis. In Khamlia, you will be greeted with a warm cup of tea (aka: Berber Whiskey) while enjoying live, spiritual Gnawa music. Leaving Khamlia our next stop is a panoramic view of the golden dunes near the Algerian border. Time permitting, we may stop for a picnic lunch in the desert or sample a Berber pizza in one of my favorite spots in Khamlia, before visiting a nomad family. You will be introduced to family members and learn about their way of life, and most likely enjoying another cup of tea and nuts. Then we will visit the site of black volcanic rocks. Continuing onward we’ll reach the panoramic view near Yasmina Lake. The Lake is an amazing view, especially if it full of water. The dunes will stand in all its glory with a picturesque view of the nearby lake (usually only springtime, if lucky). Then we will drive back to Merzouga. This is a full and exciting day. Don’t forget your camera.
Please note: we will visit Yasmina or Merzouga Lake only if there’s water in it.
Arriving at your Riad around 4 p.m., you will meet your next mode of transportation, a camel. You will take a gentle, peaceful ride on your camel to the Berber Camp, situated in the dunes. Here you will experience the life of a nomad. After a fine Moroccan dinner, enjoy the sound of cultural Berber music and a campfire. The music, the sky and the company are the perfect combination to rank this adventure #1. Your tent is equipped with comfortable beds, blankets, and pillows.
Day 4: Merzouga – Ouarzazate
Good morning Morocco! Right before sunrise, you will walk to the top of the sand dunes for a fantastic photo opportunity. The sun rise over the dunes is a breathtaking site, which offers a smattering of colors on sand. We will then make our way back to the hotel for showers and breakfast before we continue our journey to Ouarzazate. After breakfast you will pass through Alnif, Tazzarine, Nkob, and the Draa Valley. We will stop in Ouarzazate to spend the night in the Riad or Hotel.
Day 5: Ouarzazate - Marrakech
This the morning, we will travel through the majestic Atlas Mountains. Crossing the mountains through the highest passable road in Morocco. Tizni Tichka, it is 2260m high with an amazing view of the valleys, mountains and Berber villages scattered throughout. Tichka is one of the most scenic roads in Morocco. Absolutely breath-taking. Get that camera ready for action photos. (you will be moving, most of the time) We will stop once or twice in the pass, it is a site to behold. You will arrive in the evening at your hotel in Marrakech where we will bid farewell. We hope you enjoyed your 5 day Marrakech tour with our travel agency. Until we meet again, Cheers!
